KC Newsletter! September 2025
A wonderland of inconveniences (but not for you!)

This issue: Novel preorders (for real this time), final supporter credits check-in, review spaces
This month’s finances and what all got done!
Assuming nothing explodes in the next 48 hours, the next update might actually get out a day early, which will put us at eight pages this month! I’ve only managed that one other time this year, and these upcoming pages are dense as hell. It’s too early to call I think, but there might be something to the batch update schedule.
Still chillin’ at 913 a month, which is cool because the rent went up again lmao. Thank y’all very much for helping me continue to afford to rent the lot my trailer sits on.
Also hey if you’re in Canada: I’m sure you’re extremely aware already, but Canada’s mail is halted again, just in time for the second consecutive KC book drop lol. We’ll do what we did before, shop orders won’t be shipping to Canada and I’ll hang on to all your physical rewards until things settle down. Same as it ever was. If I owe you something, feel free to contact me about it if something needs doing.
There’s a lot to cover this month, let’s get to it!
Final supporter credit check-in
I sent out emails a while back and heard from a handful of folks who kindly informed me I’d made a mistake with their name, but I’m assuming the rest of y’all are happy with your listing! Just in case, here is the supporter credit page. If you don’t see yourself, or your name looks wrong, please email me before the 30th of this month!

It’s too late to get this book as a reward, but if you set up your pledge before the 30th you can still get your name in the credits if that’s something important to you.
Also, reminder that everyone in the book club is getting the variant cover by default! Let me know if you’d like the other one instead.
Pre-orders are open!
There will be a lot more ways to get the novels than the comics because I have a distributor for them! I’ve already talked about that technical shit a million times in this newsletter, so let’s cut straight to what affects you guys.
First, here’s some stuff I do wanna repeat because it is important:
-Despite the different covers, the internal content of these books is entirely identical, this is not an attempt to trick anyone into buying the same book twice. You can do that if you really want both covers, but please understand you will then have two books with the same interior!
-I always like to remind y’all in the book club that you are already getting a physical and digital copy of this book sent to you, and if you’re happy about that (and your shipping address is correct) no further action is needed from you! You do not need to buy an extra copy unless you want an extra copy!
-Book club copies will default to the Variant Cover, the one with Phin and Ulrich on. If you would like the Destination Cover instead, just send me an email at some point.
-If you would like to opt out of getting novels in some capacity, please send me an email. I know that’s maybe a little awkward, but I really don’t want to inconvenience you with something unwanted! If I may suggest though: you have already paid for this book I would be sending, and if you decide to donate it, or put it in a little free library, or pass it along to a friend, or do literally anything else with it, I will never know the difference! I have also had one person opt out of physical novels while they still get physical comics because they prefer to read their prose digitally; this sort of halfway thing is perfectly doable.
Okay anyways unless shit gets really weird, the physical books will actually be available for distribution a week or two into October; this means you’ll be able to request copies for your library, or for your local bookshop to carry! The ISBNs are:
Variant Cover (With Phin and Ulrich): 9798999462503
Destination Cover (The Travel Poster): 9798999462527
These do not work yet. These do not work yet. I will mention on all my socials and in the discord when they’re active. I am listing them here early because well-meaning folks keep asking about them or informing me that I should get isbns. I am doing that! You will be able to use them next month! I suppose this would also let your entity of choice maybe get them in stock by the 22nd, but we’re not really doing anything fancy for that so I have no idea if they’ll pay attention to that sort of thing. As a reminder, I will get paid for any copies sold to anyone, so if you can’t afford to buy a copy yourself asking your library to pick it up is still extremely helpful! You should do that anyway if you’re feeling spry, libraries are cool I want KC In Them.
You can also pre-order these books from my own store, just like the comics! There’s no minimum goal we’re trying to hit here or anything, this would just let me (hopefully) get your book to you a little faster. The main difference between ordering from me and the distributor is I will personally be packaging anything in my shop myself, which people have mentioned is Fun, and I will be able to sign them. Ordering from my distributor will likely be cheaper and faster, but I can’t guarantee the quality of their shipping; my first proof from them was mislabeled and literally just shoved in a cardboard sleeve, but it did eventually get to me mostly in good shape, so it is an option!
Once the books are being actively distributed, I’ll set up a fancy link for individuals (readers, not shops) who want to order directly from ingram instead of through my ko-fi, which might be useful for folks who don’t want to pay international shipping. Whenever I have that, I’ll add it to the ko-fi shop description so everyone can find it easily.
I’ve been having a real cool time with the Amazon listing, which went live instantly without any input from me, so you can also pre-order the ebook from there if you want. Digital editions will be available from my shop on release day, because I think doing pre-orders for ebooks is kind of silly. That said, buying stuff on Amazon ostensibly helps with my standing in the algorithm, so follow your heart.
ARCs and review spaces
It has been about as complicated as applying for a goddamn passport, but Grist to the Cannon is now listed on Amazon, Goodreads, and Storygraph! I even managed to get on the Goodreads Author Program after a lot of heartache! I don’t use review sites for books myself, but if you do, there’s where you can find me and my books, or leave feedback when you have it. If you’re on the Advance Reader list, you’ll be getting all these links and more detailed info when I send you your epub.
I’m very excited! I’m very frustrated! dear god i hope people enjoy this book and trying to navigate all this stupid shit is worth it lol
State of the artist

lol
Hang in there y’all
