This month’s finances and what all got done!

Things are ticking along! In November I got five pages finished, got in a handful of sketches (digital and traditional both), and got the postcards drawn, put together, and sent out! There were 80 of them this time, phew. My monthly income is sitting at around $845! That’s insane!! There’s technically still one more month to hit that goal of 900 I set for December, which would definitely be a cool way to start 2025, but the rent is getting paid so I’m just happy we got this far.

I’m not gonna get into it here, but if you’d like to read it I talked a little bit about the election results on the website a few pages back. Kidd Commander has been updating a long time, good lord.

Anyway here’s the news!

Respite postcards are in the mail!

…mostly. If you’re in Canada, I still have yours! I’m not sure what I’m going to do about these and the books y’all are waiting on, at this point even if the strike clears up tomorrow it’s going to be backed up for ages; I really hate for y’all to get your stuff so far behind everyone else. My plan for now is to bundle postcards with books, at least, and maybe there will be some changes by the time I get to packing those? I’ll keep an eye on things and keep y’all posted. Unfortunately, once these orders go out I’m probably not going to accept any shop orders to Canada until things calm down. Cursed to live in interesting times and all that.

As always, if you have any questions about the status of anything I owe you, please feel free to send me an email or something! I can’t guarantee there will be anything new to share, but I’m happy to reassure you that things are in order if you’re worried.

Volume 4 news!

The books are in, I’m picking them up on Tuesday!! They’re gonna be in the mail soon!! TRAGICALLY that means I don’t have a cool photo of the whole stack together for this letter, but you CAN have this one the printer sent me before they were trimmed.

Canada situation aside, we’re gonna try to get these out before the end of the month, keep an eye on your mailboxes!

I MIGHT have two or three left over to list, but once these special editions are gone I’ll place another order for the standard volumes (with the usual inside cover illustrations), and hopefully they’ll be up in the shop for everyone else early next year. Thank y’all SO much again for making this such a successful book release, I really hope y’all enjoy them!!

Traditional work!

I got in a lot of sketching this month! It felt good, I haven’t really had time for it this year. Working with markers has been doing something vaguely healthy for my brain, I think, and folks seem to like looking at them so I’m gonna try and make a non-nebulous attempt at recording some video in the new year. Here are a couple pieces for now, already looking a lot better than the Toulouse from last time!

I also had a bit of a snap after Election Night and started drawing the cats from Neko Atsume. I’m still going. I have so many goddamn cats.

I’ve fallen behind posting to the Cara gallery, which is an objectively more comfortable Browsing Experience, but for now you can browse my art tag on tumblr if you wanna catch up on everything I did this month. Sorry about all the nekos, I can only go where the spirit moves me and sometimes it’s little cats.

Prose news!

I’ve been reading a lot lately, which makes me want to write, so while I HAVE been doing a lot of that it’s been scattered between four different projects (the MHE novel, the Detour, then Honest Work and one other smaller fic I’m doing just for fun) so it doesn’t feel like I’m making much progress on any of them individually haha. It all adds up eventually though!

I REALLY want to get the novel draft done in 2025, the webcomic pace is agonizing in its own way but not being able to share anything of the novel before it’s all finished is killing me. I thought it would be done this year but I chose to focus on Volume 4 instead, which wasn’t a mistake but! I’m so impatient! I can’t wait to share this stuff with y’all!! Thanks for hanging in there for all these different projects.

State of the Artist

I’m gonna wait ‘til the end of December for a real Introspective, but it still feels wonderful to be here. This was the first year I was really able to work at full capacity since like…god, since we started wedding planning in 2019 I think, it’s been one rolling emergency after another since then. It’s been nice getting back to normal but I still feel perpetually behind because projects have been piling up for so long! I think I’m slowly gaining ground though, so here’s hoping I can keep us on an even keel for a while.
