This month’s finances and what all got done
Art is still coming back very slowly, but more days of the week than before I am managing to get pen to tablet and wring some lines out of it. Novel work is going very well! I posted a very small bit on the Sprawlworks tumblr, if you’re into that.
The serial is live!
Most of August was focused on getting the novel serialization going! I finished a website, got the substack set up, and aside from a few housekeeping things I still need to do on the other KC sites and my socials everything is moving right along. I really wanted to do all of it during this odd interlude where I’m struggling to get used to the new art setup; assuming nothing explodes anywhere this shouldn’t be too much of an imposition on regular comic work once I’m back in the swing of it. The rate at which updates go up compared to the rate at which I write means I’ve got an entire novel’s worth of buffer ready to go and it should stay that way for a while. If you’ve been unsure about buying the novel, or you’d just like an excuse to revisit it, you can read new writing every other Monday— as a webnovel archive on the home site, or as Dracula-Daily-Style emails on substack!
The forum is also, tentatively, out of beta! This is where the novel discussion goes regardless of where you’re reading it, and there are spaces for both new readers and veterans to chat about whatever KC stuff they like. Longtime reader Skye even set up a thread specifically for comparing the original comic to the novel as the prose updates, isn’t that neat?
By the way, it should probably go without saying if you’re familiar with me and my work, but none of these things are or will ever be paywalled. The forum is public, and both the substack and the Sprawlworks site will be completely free to read forever, just like the comic. What have you got to lose!
Postcards!
They’ve mostly been delivered!

I got a lot of them bounced back this time. I’m fully willing to accept some responsibility for how weird this batch ended up being, given the brain problems and all; I don’t actually remember much about the days I spent printing envelopes lmao. While I did ask everyone to double check their information was correct, that was all the way back in May, and I completely forgot to post my usual reminder that the various support platforms don’t actually inform me when you make changes. Manually checking over a hundred addresses between three websites is completely unfeasible so I just go with what I’ve already got unless I’m told differently, and I think a lot of folks slipped through the cracks here. I was just happy I got it all done at all but I hate to think I screwed it up so badly in the end.
If you’re missing a postcard, please email me! I didn’t end up with many of the extra materials this time, but I definitely have stickers and postcards, and it’s possible if you’re missing yours I’ve got it here anyway. Let me know what I can do for you and I’ll try my best to get you sorted. I’m very sorry about all this!
State of the artist
Things are going much better than they were! I’m still building up my strength again but I’m back to doing my usual amount of physical activity each week, I’m eating well, and my cognition seems to be back to what it was before all this happened. At this point I’ve completed all of my labs and gotten the results back too, all clean; none of the cancers we tested for, none of the disorders. Even the first complete hormone panel I’ve ever had done came back perfectly normal, so actually, by the end of it we removed a couple of diagnoses from my chart. Nobody has any idea what caused any of my issues over the last few months or why it stopped, which is exactly as spooky as every other time it’s happened, but what can you do lmao.
I’m working on learning to draw digitally again; it’s been really tough adjusting to the new equipment, but I’m not getting too sick to continue every twenty minutes so I’m hopeful if I keep at it I’ll be able to get back to making acceptable comic art soon. Thank you very much for your continued patience. I really, really don’t want this particular scene to look lackluster because of an issue that doesn’t even have anything to do with the comic itself, and I’m confident the wait for this finale will be worth it once I can get my shit together well enough to draw it.
